FL – Broward – Margate

about

In 1973, South Broward High School Senior Class President, Kurt Kotrady, began his journey as a leader by starting and leading the school's Sport Car club. In 1974, Kurt began his law enforcement career at the age of 19 with the City of Sunrise, where he served until 1981. During this time, he became a member of the Broward County Sheriff's Department and was selected to serve in various units such as road patrol, the Motorcycle unit, the Chiefs of Police anti-racketeering unit, the Gang Task Force unit, the S.T.O.P. unit, and the Auto Theft unit. Kurt was instrumental in starting the Juvenile Truancy unit, which led to a decrease in home burglaries in the area and caught the attention of the sheriff. He also served in the Vice unit in an undercover capacity, among other detachment assignments. One of Kurt's proudest moments was serving as the Sheriff's Driver/Bodyguard due to his ethical standards and professionalism. Throughout his 30 years with the Broward County Sheriff's Office, Kurt received numerous awards and accolades, including full pension and benefits. He was one of the first four members of the reformed Motorcycle unit and became their first certified Motorcycle instructor. Kurt's dedication to service extended beyond his law enforcement career, as he began volunteering at the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale and later served as the Lead Security Agent for the Pastor and his family. Kurt has also been an active volunteer with the Make-A-Wish Foundation since 2004, where he continues to make a difference in the lives of children like Austin Farmer. He has volunteered at the Broward County Humane Society for the past five years, where he started a Security group and has helped to guide court-ordered volunteers towards a brighter future. Kurt is also a proud member of The Hundred Club since 2017, providing assistance to family members of fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers. Presently, Kurt is a regular attendee at Calvary Chapel church, where he serves as a Greeter at the door entrance. Despite his injuries, Kurt continues to serve his community by being a good neighbor, offering help with lawn care and pool cleaning. However, Kurt's greatest accomplishment is his son Jeffrey, who he raised to be a respectful and responsible individual. Jeffrey went on to receive scholarships to college, get married, become a father of three, and eventually serve as a Pastor, bringing Kurt immense joy and fulfillment. Throughout his life, Kurt has found peace and fulfillment in his faith and service to God. His dedication to serving others and making a positive impact on the lives around him is a testament to his character and commitment to making a difference in the world.
