In 1973, South Broward High School's Senior Class President, Kurt Kotrady, embarked on a journey that would lead him to a successful career in law enforcement. Graduating at the age of 19, he began his law enforcement career in the City of Sunrise and eventually became a member of the Broward County Sheriff's Department in 1981. Throughout his tenure with the department, Kurt excelled in various units such as road patrol, motorcycle unit, chiefs of police anti-racketeering unit, gang task force unit, S.T.O.P. unit, auto theft unit, and juvenile truancy unit. His dedication and hard work were recognized with numerous awards and commendations. In addition to his exemplary law enforcement career, Kurt also dedicated his time to serving his community and church. He volunteered at organizations such as MAKE a WISH foundation, Broward County Humane Society, and First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale. He was also a member of The Hundred Club, providing assistance to families of fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers. Presently, Kurt continues to serve as a greeter at Calvary Chapel church and is actively involved in various community service endeavors. Despite facing injuries that limit his physical abilities, Kurt remains committed to helping others and making a positive impact in the lives of those around him. One of Kurt's greatest accomplishments is his son Jeffrey, who has followed in his father's footsteps by serving as a pastor and continuing the legacy of kindness, integrity, and service to others. Kurt's journey is a testament to his unwavering dedication to his community, his faith, and his family.
