In 1973, South Broward High School saw Kurt Kotrady take on the role of Senior Class President. He also began and led the school's Sports Car club. In 1974, Kurt started his law enforcement career at the young age of 19 in the City of Sunrise. He went on to join the Broward County Sheriff's Department in 1981, where he had the opportunity to serve in various units such as road patrol, the Motorcycle unit, and the Chiefs of Police anti-racketeering unit. Throughout his tenure with the sheriff's department, Kurt was involved in several specialized units including the Gang Task Force unit, S.T.O.P. Unit, and the Auto Theft unit. He was instrumental in starting the Juvenile Truancy unit, which led to a decrease in home burglaries in the area. Kurt also served in undercover capacities in units such as the Vice unit and the Dignitary Protection Unit. Apart from his law enforcement career, Kurt became involved in volunteering activities such as serving in the security team at First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale and volunteering at the MAKE-A-WISH Foundation. He also devoted his time to the Broward County Humane Society and was a member of The Hundred Club, providing assistance to the families of fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers. Kurt's greatest accomplishment is his son Jeffrey, who he raised to be a polite and respectful young man. Jeffrey received scholarships to college, got married, and became a pastor. Kurt finds great joy and inner peace in serving God and is an active member of Calvary Chapel church. Despite his injuries, Kurt continues to serve as a greeter at the church's door entrance and remains committed to helping his neighbors in any way he can. Kurt's life has been filled with achievements and meaningful relationships, bringing him much happiness and satisfaction.
