In 1973, South Broward High School elected me as their Senior Class President. I also founded and led the school's Sport Car club. In 1974, I began my law enforcement career in the City of Sunrise, starting at the age of 19. In 1981, I joined the Broward County Sheriff's Department and was involved in various units, including road patrol, the Motorcyle unit, the Chief of Police anti-racketeering unit, the Gang Task Force unit, the S.T.O.P. unit, the Auto Theft unit, and the Juvenile Truancy unit. I also worked undercover in the Vice unit, dealing with massage parlors and other establishments. I am proud to have been a member of the Dignitary Protection Unit and served as the Sheriff's Driver/Bodyguard. Throughout my 30-year career with the Broward County Sheriff's Office, I received several awards, including a full pension and benefits. I was one of the first certified Motorcycle instructors and helped reform the unit. Outside of law enforcement, I became a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale in 1996. I volunteered in their Christmas pageant and later became the lead security agent for the Pastor and his family. I also volunteer at the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Broward County Humane Society. I am a member of The Hundred Club, which supports family members of fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers. Presently, I attend Calvary Chapel church and serve as a greeter at the door entrance. Before my injuries, I enjoyed being a good neighbor by helping with lawn care and pool cleaning. One of my greatest accomplishments is my son Jeffrey, who received scholarships to college, got married, and now serves as a Pastor. Our faith in God brings me the greatest joy and inner peace.
