In 1981, I began my law enforcement career in the City of Sunrise at the age of 19. I later joined the Broward County Sheriff's Department and had the opportunity to serve in various units such as the road patrol, Motorcycle unit, Chiefs of Police anti-racketeering unit, Gang task force unit, S.T.O.P. unit, Auto theft unit, and Juvenile Truancy unit. I was instrumental in starting the Juvenile Truancy unit, which helped decrease home burglaries in the area. I also served in the Vice unit in an undercover capacity. During my time with the Broward County Sheriff's Office, I received several awards and accolades and was one of the first Motorcycle members when the unit was reformed. I served as the unit's first certified Motorcycle instructor. Additionally, I served as a member of the Dignitary protection Unit and was the Sheriff's Driver/Bodyguard. In 1996, I became a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale and served in various capacities such as the Christmas pageant and later as the Lead Security Agent for the Pastor and his family. I have also been a volunteer at the Make-A-Wish Foundation since 2004 and at the Broward County Humane Society for the past five years. I am also a member of The Hundred Club, which assists family members of fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers. Currently, I am a weekly attendee at Calvary Chapel church where I serve as a Greeter at the door entrance. Before my injuries, I also used to help my neighbors by cutting their lawns and cleaning their pools. One of my greatest accomplishments is my son Jeffrey, who has grown up to be a respectful and successful individual, serving as a Pastor and a father of three. Overall, I find great joy and inner peace in serving our Creator, God.
